ABOUT ME
Deconstructing complexity into simplicity
Thanks for joining me here. It's such a blessing that you arrived.
How can we breathe in a radical acceptance of reality? What hinders us right now? I often think about these two questions.
When painting, there is no reality for me. It’s just color and pattern and space. I stop thinking about myself, people, circumstances — and solely engage in the present moment within the creative medium. Drawing and painting repeating patterns, especially those developed in the Islamic world, have a therapeutic quality. The process of creating the perfect line, rounding a circle, slowly developing an emerging pattern, and then applying a color palette to that design is absolutely marvelous.
I tend to find a complex pattern and then deconstruct it into its base forms. I practice drawing different variations of those forms until something manifests, and then I paint it. Once this process has completed, I almost always give the painting away to someone special. It's how I let go and also share gratitude for the artistic experience.
Ruler, compass, paper, pen, ink, paint… these are all my favorite devices. I hope you can enjoy them too.
